In Home & Away, a travelling thematic event series, artists, philosophers, critics, translators, curators, cultural theorists, poets, writers, and academics were invited to think about what it is to be away or stay at home. The program itself traveled between its home in West Den Haag to other cities to extend these questions. As such, the program itself continually evolved, as it reconfigured for each new event (talk, exhibition, field trip).
The guest, location, and theme attracted a broad range of audiences and shared knowledge production on art and culture. Guests have included: Rod Summers, John Kinsella, Gemma Weston, V.Vale, Chad Wiedner, Bernd Upmeyer, Anthony Leigh Dunstan, Lisa Robertson, Chai Siris, Dr. Acides Villaça, Alexandre Barbosa de Souza, Ludwig Seyfarth, Timotheus Vermeulen, Matthias Bitzer, Bernd Krauß, and Dr. Jacob Voorthuis.
Trips have included a local aesthetic tour by torchlight in a suburb of Western Australia. A visit to the Netherlands Institute for Art History. A night tour of the old Leiden Observatory. A cross-country road trip through the Dutch south. A visit to Rotterdam’s elevated walkways, cloud scrapers, and high rises. For the ‘Away’ events of the program, I partnered with other professionals and organizations including Turning A Blind Eye | Sao Paulo Biennale and KAI 10 | Antheana Foundation, Dusseldorf.
